LAB's Top 20 Moments of 2020!

What a year it has been! 2020 hasn’t been easy, but it’s absolutely a memorable one for us at LAB. Here are our top 20 moments we love to share with you:

Coming in at 20... When COVID came and the city went through lock down, we continued creating with you all through Messy Jessy’s online Zoom classes! It was a challenge but we had so many laughs. Thumbs up if you think so too!

19: We revamped our LAB logo and got ourselves a GIANT SIGN for our new studio :) We also upgraded with a reception area - a true mark of professionalism and establishment ;) Messy Jessy and Trendy Wendy gained some muscle that day building the receptionist desk!

18: Trendy Wendy and Mr. Trendy got engaged during the summer!

17: Messy Jessy and Mr. Messy had a Disney wedding in Hawaii earlier this year!

16: During the summer, Creative Carmen and her artsy friends raised money for Raven Trust and Vancouver Black Advocacy Fund with her awesome sticker designs - we’re so proud!

15: Terrific Tina started Plant & Paint classes! We even had our first Plant & Paint evening party with a great group of ladies, and it was such a great way for friends to bond.

14: During Thanksgiving, the LAB team got together in the studio for some local take out and made Halloween costumes. We love cozy and chill artsy nights in!

13: Along with all our Art portfolio building and English private classes, we also did Math, Pinyin and Science! We truly love to dabble and experiment with all our strengths and curiosities.

12: Lunar festival workshops were a blast; we painted moon cakes, made watercolour cards, and folded paper lanterns.

11: We loved celebrating the spooky holidays with you all at Lady Hex’s Happy Halloween Workshops. We crafted Lady Hex ornaments, decorated haunted house cards and we can’t forget all the galaxy slime.

We're halfway there! At number 10: Happy 6 years of LAB in the making! We had such fun fantastic first COVID-friendly workshops with the community this September. We made paintings of LAB Boi, drew LAB friends and mixed up lots and lots of slime.

9: We had a contest for kids to come up with some LAB friends for Lab Boi, Triangal and Square Bear! We want to thank everyone again who submitted. We had well over 30 submissions, and kids were super creative with the names and drawings. In the end, we welcomed Happy Heart, Pacaso, and Science Boy!

8: We're so excited about our Winter Wonder-LAB workshops happening until end of February of 2021 - to date, we are donating a total of $450 towards local charities: Covenant House, Ronald McDonald House and Ethos Lab. Tis the time to give and share the love of art!

7: We made the "LAB @ Steveston" mural in the studio! Credits go to Messy Jessy, Mr. Messy, Terrific Tina, Bubbly Bernice, Creative Carmen, Cool Lou, Mr. Cool, Trendy Wendy, Mr. Trendy (and Silly Sirus who supervised us).

6: We welcomed new instructors to our team this year: Bubbly Bernice, Rainbow Rachel, Sunshine Shengyin, Just Jenn, Cherry Cecilia, Delightful Delicia, Emma Banana, Nifty Namita, and a fluffy greeter Silly Sirus. Hello team!

5: "The LAB Shop" opened, and we’re so happy to see people come explore more art possibilities at home.

4: We tried out so many new creative projects at our weekend workshops this year! We tried activities like: clay wheel, needle felting, wreath making, sewing, sticker making, pumpkin carving, calligraphy, paint and plant, weaving, and so many more!

3: Birthday parties got smaller and cozy this year, but they are just as lively and full of love! Thanks Kayla, Haylie, Ryan, Aliyah, Michiko, Mavis, Hannah, Maya, Vivienne, Mr. Messy, and Creative Carmen for celebrating your momentous day with LAB!

2: We had 14 weeks of pure summer camp fun with wonderful kids! We had "Artists of the Week" featured on our Instagram, and proudly showcased all sorts of masterpieces. We created so many different kinds of art from paintings to clay creations. Thanks for an unforgettable summer!

And drumroll please...

Our top favourite moment of 2020: We moved out of our little studio on Elmbridge, and opened LAB to a more spacious location in Steveston Village. We made so many new friends in the “Best Neighbourhood” of metro Vancouver, and cannot wait to see how far we can fly. Go LAB!

From our LAB family to yours, we wish you all a safe, healthy and happy holiday! Merry Christmas and let’s hope for an even better 2021!

Lots of love and big smiles,

Messy Jessy and Trendy Wendy
