WEEK 1 (Jun 30 – Jul 4): Realism & Portraits

Capture life in stunning detail. Our students will study shading, proportions, and expressive faces while drawing inspiration from masters like Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Frida Kahlo, John Singer Sargent, and Kehinde Wiley. From classical techniques to modern twists, young artists will create lifelike and imaginative portraits.

WEEK 2 (Jul 7 – Jul 11): Favourite Fauvists – Wild Colors Unleashed!

Why paint grass green when it could be pink or blue? This week, campers embrace bold, unnatural colors in the style of Henri Matisse, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Kees van Dongen, and Maurice de Vlaminck. Expect vibrant landscapes, expressive animals, and electrifying portraits.

WEEK 3 (Jul 14 – Jul 18): Doodle Like a Dadaist

Art doesn’t have to make sense, it just has to be fun! Kids will experiment with absurd collages, spontaneous drawings, and playful mixed-media works inspired by Marcel Duchamp, Hannah Höch, Jean Arp, Kurt Schwitters, and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.

WEEK 4 (Jul 21 – Jul 25): Deco Dreams

Sleek, stylish, and full of glamour! Our students will design bold geometric patterns, elegant portraits, and metallic motifs influenced by Tamara de Lempicka, Erté, Cassandre, Jean Dunand, and Sonia Delaunay.

WEEK 5 (Jul 28 – Aug 1): Let's Gogh for Impressionists

Painting the magic of fleeting moments. Young artists will explore loose brushstrokes, glowing colours, and outdoor scenes while studying Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Berthe Morisot, Edgar Degas, and Mary Cassatt.

WEEK 6 (Aug 4 – Aug 8): Have a Bowl of Surreal

Where melting clocks float and animals wear clothing! Our students will conjure up dreamlike art inspired by Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Frida Kahlo, Joan Miró, and Leonora Carrington, creating bizarre and beautiful works.

WEEK 7 (Aug 11 – Aug 15): Perfecting Perspective

Art that tricks the eye! Kids will master 3D illusions, impossible shapes, and mind-bending designs with techniques from M.C. Escher, Bridget Riley, Victor Vasarely, Julian Beever, and Felice Varini.

WEEK 8 (Aug 18 – Aug 22): Cool As a Cubist

Why paint a face straight-on when you can show every angle at once? Our students will deconstruct reality into bold geometric forms, inspired by Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Lyubov Popova, and Fernand Léger.

WEEK 9 (Aug 25 – Aug 29): Make Some Poppin' Art!

Bright, bold, and bursting with energy! This week blends pop culture and cityscapes, with projects inspired by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Yayoi Kusama. Our students will create comic-style art, graffiti murals, and urban-inspired designs that pop off the page!

WEEK 10 (Sep 2 – Sep 5): Urban Landscapes – Cities in Art

From towering skyscrapers to bustling streets, campers will paint, collage, and sketch dynamic city scenes. They’ll study urban perspectives through the eyes of Edward Hopper (lonely diners), Canaletto (detailed cityscapes), Seula Yi (abstract Seoul), Richard Estes (hyperrealist streets), and Banksy (playful street art). The week ends with mixed-media metropolis masterpieces

At the end of camp, each child will take home a portfolio of their creations with worksheets.

FAQ

What if my child has never taken an art class before?

All the class activities are perfect for first-time art students. We have a specific curriculum for each age group/level to try and challenge themselves with.

What should my child(ren) bring to camps?

Our classes will provide students all the materials needed - woo! Students just need to wear something they're not afraid to get messy in; we have aprons but you just never know in an art studio! Please also provide a water bottle, nut-free snack and or a lunch if they're staying for 'Lunchtime Supervision' from 12-1pm.

Can my toddler register for camps?

We highly recommend your child be at least 3 years old by the time of our Camps begin. Our camps are intensive and considerably long classes for most toddlers. Our schedule is super flexible, so you can try one 2-Hour Camp first to see if your child is comfortable with our classes. The recommended projects for 3 year olds are Painting Studies, or Sculpture Hand-Building.

If I sign up my child for a morning camp and an afternoon camp, do I need to pick them up during 12-1pm?

Lunchtime supervision from 12-1pm is free of charge when you book both a morning and an afternoon session on the same day at the same studio. Please provide a lunch and water bottle for your child if they stay. You can now purchase a 'Pre-Paid Package', which allows you to pick and book multiple 2-Hour and/or 3-Hour Camp sessions.

My kid is 3-5 years old, can they stay for a whole day?

We highly suggest students between ages of 3-5 participate in one '2-Hour Camp' a day as these are intensive art classes. We provide a short 5-10 minute break in a session, and expect our students to be able to start and complete the project at hand.

My kid is turning 6 years old this year, which age group should they join?

If they are turning 6 within 2-3 months, we suggest registering for the 6-9 group to provide a good challenge. Our instructors can offer feedback, and if the older group proves too tricky, adjustments can be made.

What if my kids doesn’t like making a mess?

Try Fine Art Drawing Techniques, Science + Art Exploration, and or Creative Story Writing/Reading for mess-free options. These are classes where we will be working on pencil and ink drawing, watercolour, and paper art for ages 6 and above are less messy.

What do my kid(s) take away from 'Sculpture Hand building' class?

At Steveston and Point Grey, we will get to explore Earthenware clay that turns into Ceramic masterpieces after 2-3 weeks of drying and firing. At Kerrisdale, we will introduce Air Dry clay which is great for hand-building as well, and students will get to take home after a couple days.

What do my kid(s) take home from each class?

After each 2 or 3-hour session, your child will complete one project to take home, except for during Sculpture Hand-building class, any earthenware or air-dry clay needs more time to set. Earthenware clay work will take about 2-3 weeks to dry and fire in our studio kiln; we will email you when they are ready for pick up!

How many students will be in a class?

Our classes are structured small groups, with 8 students maximum to an instructor.

I want to cancel my booking, can I get a refund?

There is strictly NO refund of any course fees paid in the event of no-shows, and/or cancellations due to personal schedule conflict or sickness.

Changes for any confirmed/scheduled class or course can be made and finalized with more than 48 hours notice, if there is availability and at LAB management's discretion. There is a $10 administration fee per class/course transfers, class location changes, and/or credit requests.

How can I change my booking?

Please e-mail the studio for any changes made to confirmed bookings. Changes for any confirmed/scheduled class or course can be made and finalized with more than 48 hours notice, if there is availability and at LAB management's discretion. There is a $10 administration fee per class/course transfers, class location changes, and/or credit requests.

I missed a camp session, can I have a make-up class?
