✨ Shine Bright, Design Bold!

We’ve entered Week 4 of our LAB Summer Art Camps, and our studios are glowing with bold lines, golden hues, and glamorous patterns! During Art Deco Dreams, running from July 21 to 25, young artists aged 3 to 15 are diving into one of the most dazzling and elegant periods in art history. This stylish week is taking place across all three LAB locations: Richmond, Kerrisdale, and Point Grey.
Art Deco was a movement that celebrated modern luxury, design, and progress—and we’re channeling all that brilliance into our creative projects this week. With influences from iconic architecture, decorative arts, and vintage fashion, our students are learning to mix geometry, glamour, and imagination in their art.

Week 4: Art Deco Dreams
This week, students are drawing inspiration from the sleek, stylish world of Art Deco—a movement defined by sharp symmetry, geometric patterns, metallic colours, and the spirit of innovation. We’re looking at the works and designs of Tamara de Lempicka, Érté, and Raymond Templier to guide our creations.
Our campers are developing an appreciation for design and elegance while honing their skills in precision, layout, and visual storytelling.
Here’s a peek at what campers are exploring:
🎨 Painting Studies Campers are designing bold, symmetrical compositions using metallic paints, jewel tones, and structured line work inspired by Art Deco motifs found in architecture and vintage posters.
🧱 Sculpture Hand-Building Students are constructing sculptural pieces that echo the streamlined shapes of Art Deco skyscrapers and objects, think chrome finishes, clean lines, and stylized form.
✏️ Fine Arts Drawing Techniques Young artists are practicing clean, confident linework and graphic illustrations using rulers, stencils, and gold/silver accents to create sophisticated, era-inspired artworks.
🧵 Textile & Multimedia Arts We're incorporating fashion elements and vintage patterns into collage, using velvet paper, sequins, foil, and fabric to bring to life the glamour of 1920s–30s design.
🔬 Science + Art Exploration Campers are learning how Art Deco design influenced architecture and industrial design. Through building and experimentation, they’re creating symmetrical, layered structures and designs with mathematical precision.
📖 Creative Story Writing & Reading We’ll read stories set in the Roaring Twenties and imagine ourselves as artists or designers of that dazzling era. Campers are invited to write about elegant buildings, mysterious machines, and stylish characters in a world of shimmer and shine.
