Doodle like a Dadaist! Summer Camps 2025 @ LAB Art Studio, Vancouver

Embrace the Chaos, Create the Unconventional!

🎨 Dadaist Doodles Art Camp – July 14 –18

Summer Camps LAB Art Studios 2025

Week 3 of our LAB Summer Art Camps is already here, seems like the summer is flying by with creativity! Join us for an exciting journey into the world of Dadaist art during our Doodle like a Dadaist Art week, running from July 14 to 18 for children ages 3 to 15. This creative adventure will take place across all three LAB studio locations: Richmond, Kerrisdale, and Point Grey. Throughout the week, we will explore the ideas of Dadaism and investigate its brave creativity and expressive chaos through art-making. It's a fantastic opportunity for young artists to engage with the unexpected and embrace the absurd, fostering a sense of creativity that encourages them to think outside the box and with meaning.

Week 3 Doodle like a Dadaist

In the vibrant spirit of Dadaism, we're excited to draw inspiration from the groundbreaking artists who shaped this movement. During our exploration, we'll dive into the fascinating works of Jean Arp, Hannah Höch, and Marcel Duchamp.

Through the guidance of these extraordinary artists, students will embrace their creativity and curiosity, leaving them feeling braver and more adventurous in their creations, just like the Dadaists themselves.

Here’s a peek at what campers will dive into:

🖌️ Painting Studies We will set aside conventional ideals of colour and composition, opting instead to embrace the chaos of colour and unconventional shapes, objects, and colours. Students will use acrylics, tempera, and watercolour, incorporating elements of Dadaism.

🧱 Sculpture Hand-Building Students will explore "ready-made", where ordinary objects become art and learn about biomorphic shapes, resembling living things but reflecting some randomness while creating their own.

✏️ Fine Arts Drawing Techniques Children will discover how to draw expressively, using flowing line-work and abstract shapes while bringing their artwork to life with oil pastels, pencil crayons and vibrant markers. The focus is on creative chaos, playfulness, and impact!

🎨 Textile & Multimedia Arts We'll combine fabric, paper, and bright paints to craft collage-style artworks. This hands-on activity allows students to layer, overlap, and experiment with movement in a fun manner.

🔬 Science + Art Exploration Why stick to the ordinary when we can be EXTRAORDINARY? Campers will explore the biomorphic shapes that may not exist in our daily lives, think about objects and concepts that we meet every day and focus on what other things they can do.

📖 Creative Story Writing & Reading We’ll read stories about artists who wanted to step outside of the box and create artwork that was out of this world, expressive but unique in different ways. Students will also have the opportunity to write about their own nonsensical artistis visions.
