We're Back for Another Summer of Creative Magic!
🎨 Realism & Portraits Art Camp – Starts June 30-July 4, 2025
We’re kicking off another year of LAB Summer Camps—and what better way to start than with one of our most loved and requested themes: Realism and Portraits!
This weeklong camp is designed for kids ages 3 to 15 and takes place in our beautiful Richmond, Kerrisdale, and Point Grey studios. Whether your child is a budding beginner or a seasoned sketcher, this theme offers a focused, fun, and deeply inspiring way to level up their skills while having a blast with friends!
🎨 Mastering the Art of Realism and Portraiture
Let’s zoom in on details, explore anatomy, and discover how artists across history captured the world around them. This week, students will take inspiration from the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer, Chuck Close, Grant Wood, Edouard Manet—and more!
Here’s what our young artists can look forward to:
🖌️ Painting Studies Get those brushes ready! Kids will paint portraits and still life scenes using techniques in light, shadow, and colour blending. From soft skin tones to textured fabrics, they’ll learn how to bring their canvas to life.
🧱 Sculpture Hand-Building Working with clay, campers will sculpt expressive faces and realistic human forms—learning proportions, anatomy basics, and how to turn a lump of clay into a masterpiece.
✏️ Fine Arts Drawing Techniques This is where observation becomes art. From contour lines to shading and perspective, kids will practice how to truly “draw what they see” and add depth and emotion to their portraits.
🧵 Textile & Multimedia Arts Realism in 3D! Students will experiment with fibers, patterns, and tactile materials to recreate textures found in nature and everyday life—an exciting hands-on experience that merges art and design.
🔬 Science + Art Exploration Did you know understanding how your eye sees light helps you paint better shadows? Or that facial muscles help us capture emotion in art? We’ll connect creativity to concepts in anatomy, optics, and more!
📖 Creative Story Writing & Reading Realism isn’t just visual—it’s storytelling too! Campers will explore characters, settings, and descriptive writing as they craft short stories that pair beautifully with their portraits and projects.

Our camps run all summer long at three convenient locations in Vancouver:
Camp hours: Choose from 9 AM–3 PM or 10 AM–4 PM depending on your studio. Flexible, fun, and filled with creativity every day!
