Summer Weekly Classes @ LAB Art Studios! Where Pop Art Comes to Life!

Summer has officially arrived at LAB Art Studios, and with it comes two months packed with bright colours, bold ideas, and imaginative creations inspired by one of the most exciting art movements of the 20th century: Pop Art!
New months mean fresh themes for our weekly classes and a new artist to inspire our creative journey.
This term, we're exploring the colourful and playful world of Andy Warhol, one of the most recognizable artists in history. Born in 1928, Warhol believed that everyday objects could become extraordinary works of art. From soup cans to fun portraits, he transformed ordinary items into bold masterpieces using bright colours, repetition, and simple graphic shapes. His work helped define the Pop Art movement, proving that inspiration can be found almost anywhere, even in your kitchen!
Let's take a look at what we'll be creating over the next couple of months!
🍦 Pop Art Ice Cream Stands
Summer wouldn't be complete without ice cream! This month, students will design their own colourful Pop Art-inspired ice cream stands bursting with imagination, oversized treats, and eye-catching colours. We'll look at how artists use bold outlines, repeated patterns, and vibrant colour palettes to make artwork jump right off the page.
Students will:
Design their own unique ice cream stand with creative flavours and fun details.
Explore bold outlines, graphic shapes, and high-contrast colours inspired by Pop Art.
Experiment with repetition and pattern to create exciting visual designs.
Practice composition by arranging signs, treats, and decorations into a cohesive artwork.
Whether it's a triple-scoop rainbow cone or an ice cream flavour that has never existed before, creativity is definitely on the menu!
🥛 What's in Your Refrigerator?
Have you ever stopped to think about how many interesting objects are hiding inside your refrigerator? Inspired by Andy Warhol's fascination with everyday products, students will transform common food items into colourful works of art.
From juice cartons and milk bottles to fruit, vegetables, condiments, and snacks, we'll discover how ordinary objects can become extraordinary through colour, design, and imagination.
Students will:
Observe and draw everyday food and household items from a fresh perspective.
Learn how Pop Art celebrates familiar objects using bold colours and simplified shapes.
Experiment with pattern, repetition, and graphic design techniques.
Create a playful refrigerator scene that tells a story about their favourite foods and family traditions.
This project encourages students to notice beauty in the everyday while strengthening observation skills and creative thinking.
Throughout July and August, we'll discover that inspiration doesn't always come from faraway places, it can be found in an ice cream cone, a carton of milk, or even your favourite snack tucked away in the fridge. By exploring the colourful world of Pop Art, students will learn that artists have the power to transform ordinary moments into something exciting, memorable, and uniquely their own!
