We definitely love our Canvas / Acrylic Painting classes, and we always recommend this medium especially for first time art makers, and as a party activity at LAB studio!
Parents and students always ask what sort of paint we use in our classes, and why we would choose to paint with Acrylic Paint over Oil Paint.
Here are our top 5 reasons why love using our Acrylic Paints instead of Oils:
1. It's much more SAFE!
Oil paints contain solvents and other toxic chemicals that can be harmful if ingested or inhaled. Acrylic paints, on the other hand, are water-based and do not contain harmful chemicals. This makes them a much safer choice for young children who may be prone to accidentally licking or touching the paint.
2. Drying time is faster!
Unlike oil paints, which can take days or even weeks to fully dry, acrylic paints dry quickly and can be used in a shorter amount of time. This means that our young students can see the results of their work sooner and are less likely to become frustrated or lose interest in the project.
3. Easier clean up time!
Since acrylic paints are water-based, they can be easily cleaned up with soap and water, whereas oil paints require solvents like turpentine or mineral spirits to clean up!
4. It's a much more versatile and fun medium.
Acrylics can be used on a variety of surfaces, including paper, canvas, wood, and even fabric. The colour pay out still comes out bright and smooth, just like oils. This versatility allows young students to explore a variety of techniques and experiment with different surfaces and textures.
5. And finally, it's much more economical.
Since they are water-based and do not require solvents, acrylics are less expensive to produce and purchase.
