Are you ready for Studio Ghibli-Inspired Blind Boxes & Woodland Creatures Art?
We’re kicking off the new year with imagination, wonder, and a touch of movie-magic at LAB Art Studios! For January and February, our young artists will journey into whimsical worlds filled with tiny surprises, gentle forest friends, and dreamy storytelling - perfect for sparking creativity after the holidays.
This season’s themes draw inspiration from the enchanting aesthetic of Studio Ghibli, known for its soft painterly scenes, expressive characters, and warm, wonder-filled storytelling. Combined with our cozy, nature-themed Woodland Creatures unit, students will explore new mediums, build skills, and create artwork full of charm, personality, and surprise.
January: Studio Ghibli-Inspired Blind Boxes 🎁✨

January opens with an interactive art experience sure to delight every child, creating their very own Blind Box Art! Just like the collectable surprise toys kids love, our artists will design miniature characters, creatures, or objects inspired by the whimsical worlds of Studio Ghibli.
Think tiny forest spirits, floating lanterns, soft pastel skies, and magical items from imagined adventures.
Students will:
Sculpt and/or paint, and assemble their own “mystery” mini artworks
Explore character design and environmental storytelling
Learn how to use soft gradients, expressive eyes, and Ghibli-like gentle textures
Package their creations into surprise boxes to swap, gift, or keep
It’s creativity, suspense, and hands-on making all in one, perfect for igniting imagination and fine motor skills.
February: Studio Ghibli-Inspired Woodland Creatures Art 🌲🦊

February shifts into a world of heartwarming nature and imagination with our Woodland Creatures theme. We'll take a closer look at animal anatomy and get inspired by our Favourite Ghibli film characters like Catbus and Totoro.
Inspired by storybook illustration, students will explore favourite magical forest friends using painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media.
This month, students will:
Practice observational drawing using animal shapes and forms
Learn to add personality through pattern, texture, and expressive features
Build simple character backstories and mini scenes
Experiment with natural palettes, warm browns, mossy greens, soft neutrals
From whimsical critters to cozy winter burrows, every artist will bring their own creature-filled world to life.
A Creative Season for Every Class
Whether your child joins Parent & Me, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Digital Drawing, or Creative Storytelling, our January to February curriculum is designed to nurture imagination, confidence, and skill. By the end of the season, students will have a collection of artworks that blend mystery and magic, and have a deeper understanding of character creation, storytelling, and visual design.
