The Role of Art History in Our Weekly Classes @ LAB Art Studio

Updated: Apr 3

At LAB, we have a great variety of artsy and academic Weekly Classes to join. There’s a schedule for all ages and it’s categorized into: Toddlers (< 3), 3-5’s, 6-9’s, 10+'s When you join a “Weekly Class”, you may notice every month is different theme inspired by well known amazing artists and/or art styles! Incorporating the art history component to our classes is very important to us, as it helps our students to connect themselves to new ideas and concepts.

Understanding Cultural Diversity:

Through the lens of art history, our students are exposed to a diverse range of cultures, traditions, and perspectives from around the world. From the vibrant colours of Asian Pop art to the intricate patterns of European lifestyles, our classes celebrate the rich tapestry of human creativity, fostering empathy and appreciation for cultural diversity.

Inspiring Creativity through Masterpieces:

By studying iconic works of art from different time periods and movements, our instructors and students gain insight into the creative process and techniques employed by all kinds of artists. From the dynamic brushwork of Gustav Klimt to whimsical food illustrations inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, these masterpieces serve as both inspiration and learning tools, igniting the imagination of young artists as they explore their own artistic potential.

Making History Come Alive:

Rather than presenting art history as a dry academic subject, our classes bring history to life through interactive activities and hands-on fine art projects. Whether we are learning new vocabulary or recreating famous artworks in their own unique style, our students at LAB are actively engaged in the learning process, making meaningful connections between the past and the present.

Fostering Critical Thinking Skills:

Through the study of art history, toddlers to teens develop critical thinking skills at every age, as they analyze, interpret, and evaluate visual imagery. By examining the context, symbolism, and cultural significance of artworks, they learn to think critically about the world around them, questioning assumptions and exploring alternative perspectives.
