For those who have one more week of Summer Camps left, let's paint the town red and make it the most unforgettable yet.
Offer your kids a chance to explore the enchanting theme of Impressionism this summer from August 26th to 30th. Our summer art camps are designed for kids aged 3 to 15, and available at Steveston Richmond, Kerrisdale, and Point Grey in Vancouver.
We can’t wait to invite young artists to step into the light-filled world of Impressionism, a revolutionary art movement that changed the face of painting with its unique focus on light and colour.
A Brush with Beauty: Exploring Impressionist Techniques
Impressionism is celebrated for its technique of capturing a moment in time, emphasizing light’s changing qualities and the effects of the passage of time on the colour and form of objects. Our camp will introduce students to art by Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Xiaoyang Galas, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Signac:
Painting Studies: We will study the Impressionist masters like Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and Mary Cassatt, focusing on how they captured the fleeting moments of everyday life. Through outdoor and studio painting, children will practice Impressionist techniques, using quick brush strokes to catch the play of light and shadow on their canvases.
Sculpture Hand-Building: While Impressionism is most famous as a painting movement, our camp also incorporates sculpture to help kids understand form and perspective. They will create pieces that reflect Impressionist themes, learning to mold materials in ways that convey motion and emotion.
Fine Arts Drawing Techniques: Drawing sessions will emphasize capturing the essence of subjects with minimal strokes, focusing on movement and the interplay of light rather than detailed realism. This approach encourages spontaneity and expression, hallmarks of the Impressionist style.
Textile/Multimedia Arts: Integrating textiles, wool and or mosaic pieces, campers will experiment with creating artworks that mimic the textured, layered techniques of Impressionist painting. These projects allow children to explore a variety of materials and methods, enhancing their creative expression.
Science and Art Exploration: Science intersects with art in our exploration of how light and colour theory influenced Impressionist painters. Activities will include studying the physics of light and how our eyes perceive colour, and connecting scientific concepts with artistic expression.
Creative Story Writing and Reading: Inspired by the narratives implicit in Impressionist paintings, campers will engage in creative writing sessions that encourage them to craft stories capturing a moment in time, focusing on the sensory details and emotions that bring scenes to life.

Our art camps are hosted in three convenient Vancouver locations, making it easy for families throughout the city to participate. Classes start each day at 9:00 or 10:00 AM and conclude at 5:15 PM, accommodating various family schedules.
