With back to school season coming, it's time to look into classes to put your kids in! Whether you're looking for activities for homeschoolers or for after school, we've got a great classes and flexible schedules for kids from 3 to 15. In September and October, we're going to learn all about beautiful buildings and strong structures, inspired by the late architect, I.M. Pei.
Who is I.M. Pei?
Ieoh Ming Pei (貝聿銘) was a Chinese-American artist and architect. He lived a long and successful life, establishing his own design firms, and earning many awards.
He is best known for designing:
- The glass and steel pyramid for the Louvre Museum in Paris, France
- The colossal castle that is the Suzhou Museum in Suzhou, China
- The dreamy MIHO Museum in Kyoto, Japan
- The amazing geometric skyscraper for the Bank of China in Hong Kong
... and among many other beautiful museums and communal spaces around the world.
What a resume! He recently passed at the age of 102 in 2019.
We're going to take virtual tours into some of our favourite I.M. Pei's designed buildings with our students, and we can't wait to discuss his style and how he shaped modern architecture in the last century.
What sort of art projects will kids learn in September and October?
For our toddlers and parents, we have some awesome mixed media projects to try out! We're going to paint starry night backgrounds, play with gelli prints, and learn how to collage shapes!
Our younger artists ages 3-6 can join in Acrylic Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture and Alphabet + Art classes! We'll learn how to mask paintings, collage shapes, sculpt basic pyramids/cubes, and draw famous art pieces from the Louvre and Suzhou Museum.
Older artists ages 7 to 15 have opportunities to learn basics of framing beautiful painting compositions, collage with glossy/matte mediums, sculpt the gorgeous Louvre pyramid/castle tower and/or sketch I.M. Pei's amazing architectures with drafting pencils and charcoals.
