Week 2 Favourite Fauvists!

Inspired by the revolutionary artists who weren’t afraid to paint skies green and faces blue, this week celebrates bold artistic choices! We’ll explore the works of Henri Matisse, André Derain, Marc Chagall, Kees van Dongen, and Raoul Dufy, and empower kids to trust their instincts, play with colour, and express emotion through art.

Here’s a peek at what campers will dive into:

🖌️ Painting Studies We’ll throw out the “rules” of colour and embrace emotional, intuitive painting. Kids will work with acrylics and tempera to create Fauvist-style portraits and landscapes, full of bright, unexpected colour combos and strong brushwork.

🧱 Sculpture Hand-Building Sculptures don’t have to be grey or dull! Students will create wild and whimsical 3D pieces inspired by Fauvist colour palettes. It's going to be bright, bold, and bursting with personality.

✏️ Fine Arts Drawing Techniques From thick lines to abstracted shapes, kids will learn how to draw expressively and use oil pastels and vibrant markers to bring their pieces to life. It’s all about energy, rhythm, and impact!

🎨 Textile & Multimedia Arts We'll mix fabric, paper, and vibrant paints to create collage-style pieces inspired by Matisse’s iconic cut-outs. This tactile experience gives kids the freedom to layer, overlap, and explore movement in a playful way.

🔬 Science + Art Exploration Why do certain colours make us feel happy, excited, or calm? Campers will explore the psychology of colour and even mix their own hues using basic colour theory, bringing a scientific twist to our Fauvist chaos!

📖 Creative Story Writing & Reading We’ll read stories about artists who dared to be different and use their bold styles as inspiration for writing colourful characters, imaginative settings, and expressive poetry that complements their art.
