All About Mary Blair!

Mary Blair was an American artist and designer best known for her work with the Walt Disney Company. Her bright and colourful art style brought a sense of whimsy and wonder in many beloved Disney films, including "Cinderella," "Peter Pan," and "Alice in Wonderland." But Mary Blair's influence on the art world goes far beyond her work with Disney.

Born in Oklahoma in 1911, Mary Blair grew up in California and studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. She began her career as a freelance illustrator, creating advertising campaigns for companies like Nabisco and Maxwell House. In 1940, she was hired by Walt Disney to work on concept art for the film "Saludos Amigos," and soon became one of the studio's most important artists.

Why Learning About Mary Blair's Art is Good for Kids

1. Her art style is incredibly accessible and engaging for young children. The bright colors and whimsical shapes are immediately appealing, and can help children develop an appreciation for visual art at an early age.

2. Blair's work often features strong female characters, which can be empowering for young girls.

3. Her art is a great way to introduce kids to the concept of storytelling through visual art. Her work with Disney was all about creating visual narratives that could capture the imagination of audiences of all ages. By exploring her art, kids can learn about how colour, shape, and composition can be used to tell a story and create a sense of atmosphere and emotion.

4. Her art can spark kids' creativity! Her innovative use of colour and shape can inspire young artists to experiment with different techniques and materials, and to think outside the box when it comes to creating their own art.

Mary Blair is an artist whose work is both visually stunning and thematically rich. Look at all the amazing things we can make together at LAB. Why not introduce your kids to Mary Blair's art today? You never know where it might lead!
