New Weekly Class Theme: Mini Modern Museums @ LAB Art Studios

As we welcome the back-to-school season, we are thrilled to introduce an exciting new theme for our creative adventures at LAB Art Studio!

Mini Modern Museums
Sep Weekly Classes

This September, we are delving into the vibrant world of modern art with our "Mini Modern Museums" theme. Our programs are designed to ignite the imagination and inspire creativity in artists of all ages. With a fresh academic year ahead, there's no better time to explore new artistic horizons and discover the joy of creating your very own museum-worthy masterpieces.

Art museums flourish with all different types of art: from landscapes to abstract interpretations to realistic portraits, museums collect it all. Join us as we explore the varieties of modern art by creating your own personal art museum! Using bold and bright colours, planning an interesting composition, and adding personal characters throughout the piece, artists of all ages can create fun and unique artworks.

LAB is a creative space for all ages to explore their abilities and try out new mediums. Thinking of signing up but not sure what class will fit you best? We recommend our Mixed Media class for ages 3-5 as it is a great way to introduce little ones to acrylic painting, polymer clay sculpture, collaging, and more! If you're looking for a more independent and focused class, acrylic painting might be for you! This class is for anyone ages 3-15 who wants to focus on the compositions of art, colour theory, shape and form, shading and highlights, and more! For a more hands-on and 3D approach, we offer earthenware ceramic classes where students ages 3+ can learn skills like hand building, carving and sculpting, and under-glazing. If digital art is more up your alley, check out our digital drawing classes for anyone ages 6+.

Night at the Museum
Oct Weekly Classes

In October, we are continuing with our museum theme, but adding a spooky twist! Picture this: It's a windy October evening and your friends want to explore Vancouver's very own art museum. The door to the exhibition room creaks open, and you are met face to face with a dinosaur skeleton! You turn the corner and “The Scream” by Edvard Munch is staring right back at you! Skull silhouettes and spiders creep the walls around you, adding to the moody gothic ambiance. Who will you go to the museum with? We can incorporate more people into the scene by adding in movie characters dressed up in costumes! Feel like bringing your pet too? No problem, let’s paint them in a costume for the occasion too.

Takeaway for Kids:

Learning about how museums are curated is not only important but also incredibly fun. Kids can discover the fascinating process of how different artworks are selected, organized, and displayed to tell a cohesive story. This understanding helps develop a deeper appreciation for art and creativity. By engaging in curating their own mini museums, children learn critical thinking, storytelling, and organizational skills. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to unleash their imagination and see their artwork in a new, exciting context. It’s like creating a world of their own where every piece of art has a place and a story to tell.

We'll have all sorts of Weekly Class programs available in our Steveston, Point Grey and Kerrisdale studios, for the following age groups: Toddlers, 3-5, 6-9, and 10+ years.
